Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has acquired Project Fortress, a 350MW solar plus battery storage project to be constructed in Kent, UK.
The project is a National Major Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and was granted development consent by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in May 2020. It is anticipated to generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 100,000 UK households and help reduce carbon emissions by 164,450 tonnes in the first year.
With the Fortress, Quinbrook's solar and battery storage portfolio in the US and UK has increased to 2.6GW, of which 1.6GW of solar PV and 1GW of battery storage capacity. The renewables infrastructure investor plans to commence construction in the first half of 2022.
Fortress is designed to provide crucial support for the UK power grid's security and reliability, as well as continuing the UK's long-term journey to Net-Zero. Once completed, the project is expected to be the country's largest single-site solar PV installation.
